When fares are highest
- December to early January is by far the most expensive time, as families fly home for Christmas. Many aim to arrive before Simbang Gabi starts on December 16.
- Holy Week (the week before Easter; Easter Sunday is March 28 in 2027) is another busy time.
- The summer school break in July and August pushes prices up too.
When fares are usually lower
- Mid-January to early March, after the holidays, is often good value and is also the dry season in much of the country.
- May to June and September to November are usually cheaper. June to November is typhoon season, so watch the forecast and consider travel insurance.

Nonstop or one stop?
- Nonstop: Philippine Airlines flies Toronto to Manila and Vancouver to Manila, and Air Canada flies Vancouver to Manila.
- One stop: from Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, most trips connect in Vancouver or Toronto, or through Asian hubs such as Tokyo, Taipei or Seoul. These can be cheaper, but compare the total travel time.
- Count the bags. Fares that include checked bags can be better value than a cheaper fare without them, especially on a trip home with gifts.
Before you fly
- Entry: Canadians can stay visa-free for up to 30 days and must register on eTravel within 72 hours before arriving.
- Compare airports: if you're heading outside Metro Manila, compare flying into Cebu (CEB) or Clark (CRK).
