When fares are highest

December and early January are usually the most expensive time to fly, because winter holidays and weddings bring huge demand from Canada.
The summer school break (late June to August) is the second big peak, as families travel together.
Festival periods such as Diwali push prices up in the weeks around them. The dates move each year, so check them before you pick your travel window.

Spring (February to April, outside school breaks) and autumn (September to mid-November, outside festivals) tend to be the best-value months.
Midweek departures are often cheaper than Friday to Sunday.

Delhi (DEL) has the most flights and competition, so it's often cheapest. If you're heading to Punjab, compare flying into Delhi and taking a train or short flight on to Amritsar.
Amritsar (ATQ) saves you the onward journey but has fewer flights, so it can cost more. Check both before you book.
In Canada, Toronto and Vancouver usually have the most options. From Ottawa or Montreal, compare driving to a bigger airport.

Be open to one stop. Connecting through Europe or the Middle East is often much cheaper than the fastest option, and the layover can be short.
Book peak dates early. For December trips, start watching prices in late summer; the cheapest seats go first.
Check baggage. Family trips often need two checked bags each, so compare the total price with bags, not just the headline fare.
