The short version: two airlines fly Toronto to Georgetown nonstop. Caribbean Airlines flies all year, and Air Transat adds flights in the winter season. The flight takes about six to seven hours.
Fares are highest around Christmas and the summer school break, when much of Toronto's Guyanese community travels at once. If your dates are flexible, the live table below shows how much you can save by going in a quieter month.
Cheapest months vs the busy season

Marked months are the busiest for trips between Toronto and Guyana. A fare in a busy month can still be good if you book early; these prices change daily.
Who flies Toronto to Georgetown nonstop
- Caribbean Airlines flies Toronto Pearson to Cheddi Jagan International (GEO) all year. It went daily from July 1, 2026 for the summer, and fall schedules show about five flights a week, so check the days for your dates.
- Air Transat flies the route in the winter season, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Its first season ran from December 16, 2025 to May 29, 2026, and schedules show it coming back from late October 2026. Its A321LR has Club Class seats as well as Economy.
- Air Canada and WestJet don't fly to Georgetown right now. Air Canada announced plans for the route in December 2024, but it isn't on any current schedule.
With only two airlines on the nonstop, seats on the busiest dates go fast. Compare both before you book, and check whether your fare includes a checked bag.
When the nonstop is full: one-stop options
- Through Port of Spain on Caribbean Airlines. It flies Toronto to Port of Spain and has several short flights a day on to Georgetown, so this is the most common backup. Air Canada also flies Toronto to Port of Spain, but you'd book the Georgetown leg separately.
- Through New York (JFK), which has nonstop flights to Georgetown on Caribbean Airlines, American and JetBlue.
- Through Miami on American, or Surinam Airways a few times a week.
- Through Panama City on Copa, which sells Toronto to Georgetown connections through its Panama hub.
A one-stop trip can be cheaper in a busy week, but it adds hours. Book the whole trip on one ticket so a late first flight doesn't leave you stranded, and if you connect in the US, check the US entry rules for your passport first.
The cheapest and busiest times to fly
- Christmas is the peak. The Toronto public school (TDSB) winter break runs December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027, and Christmas Day 2026 is a Friday, so the days around December 18 to 27 will be the most in demand. Coming back, the first days of January fill up just as fast.
- July and August are the second peak, with school out from late June. Flights back to Toronto at the end of August are the hardest to get.
- March break (March 15 to 19, 2027 for Toronto public schools) and Easter also push prices up.
- Guyanese holidays to plan around include Republic Day (Mashramani) on February 23, Phagwah and Easter in the spring, Independence Day on May 26, Emancipation Day on August 1 and Diwali in the fall (expected around November 8, 2026; the day off may move to the Monday). Indian Arrival Day (May 5), CARICOM Day in July, Eid ul-Adha and Youman Nabi are also public holidays.
For Christmas and summer, start watching fares three to five months ahead. For quieter months, six to ten weeks ahead is usually enough.
Bags: check before you pay
Many people flying to Guyana carry extra bags for family, so the bag rules can matter more than the base fare. Allowances depend on the airline and the fare type, and they change, so check the airline's own baggage page for your exact fare.
- On Air Transat, the cheapest Eco Budget fare is sold without the extras, and the Option Plus add-on includes one 23 kg checked bag. You can check a maximum of two bags per person.
- Air Transat only takes Visa, Mastercard or American Express for bag fees at the airport. Cash, debit and Visa Debit aren't accepted.
- Price the trip with the bags you actually need. A fare that's $40 cheaper can end up costing more once a second bag is added.
- If you want your bags wrapped, Cheddi Jagan has luggage wrapping in the check-in hall for the trip home.
Before you fly: entry rules for Canadians
- No visa needed for Canadians visiting for up to 90 days.
- Passport: it must be valid for at least six months after the date you leave Guyana. Make sure the officer stamps it when you arrive, because being in Guyana without an entry stamp can cause problems when you leave.
- Online ED form: Guyana's Immigration and Customs ED form is at ed.gpf.gov.gy. One form covers your whole family, and you can submit it up to 48 hours before your flight. You'll get a confirmation by email; keep it to show the immigration and customs officers. There are also QR codes at the airport to fill it in there.
- Travel tax is now included in your ticket, so there's nothing to pay at the airport.
- Yellow fever: proof of vaccination is only needed if you arrive from, or pass through an airport in, a country where yellow fever occurs. A nonstop from Toronto doesn't trigger this, but check if you connect through South or Central America.
- Dual citizens: Guyana recognizes dual citizenship. If you're both Canadian and Guyanese, Canada notes that its consular help may be limited, and different entry or exit rules may apply.
Landing at Cheddi Jagan
- Cheddi Jagan International (GEO) is at Timehri, about 45 minutes from Georgetown. Flights from Toronto don't use the smaller Ogle airport (Eugene F. Correia International, OGL), which is closer to the city.
- Use the authorized airport taxis or a pickup you've arranged. Canada's travel advice says not to hail taxis on the street, and to use a taxi from a hotel or a reputable company.
- Canada advises a high degree of caution in Guyana because of crime. Don't carry large amounts of cash, avoid street money changers, and avoid driving at night.
- Money: the currency is the Guyanese dollar. US dollars are widely accepted, and Guyana is still largely cash-based. Cards are taken at bigger hotels and a growing number of Georgetown businesses, so carry some cash. There are Scotiabank and Republic Bank ATMs in the arrivals area.
Coming home to Toronto
- Book your return when you book your flight out. The flights back in early January and late August fill as fast as the flights there.
- Declare all food when you land at Pearson, including homemade meals, packaged foods, meat and fresh produce. Food that isn't allowed is taken, but not declaring it can mean a penalty of up to $1,300.
