4 days in Taipei: itinerary for first-timers (2026)

Taipei's MRT reaches nearly everything on this list, so each day sticks to one side of the city. The last day is a train-and-bus trip to Jiufen in the hills of New Taipei.

Day 1: Central Taipei and Taipei 101

Morning: Start at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and catch a changing of the guard (on the hour, 9:00-17:00). The Taipei Grand Mosque on Xinsheng S. Rd. in Da'an is nearby for Dhuhr.
Afternoon: Take the MRT to Longshan Temple station and visit Lungshan Temple and the old streets of Wanhua.
Evening: Go up the Taipei 101 Observatory (open until 21:00) for night views, then eat in the building's mall.
Getting around: Use an EasyCard on the MRT; it also works on the Maokong Gondola.

Day 2: Museum and hot springs in the north

Morning: Visit the National Palace Museum in Shilin (NT$350) and allow a few hours for the collection.
Afternoon: Continue north to Xinbeitou station for Beitou Geothermal Valley (free, 9:00-17:00) and Beitou Hot Spring Park.
Evening: Head back to the city centre for a quiet evening.
Getting around: Shilin and Beitou are both in the north of the city, so do them together.

Day 3: Maokong tea hills and Raohe Night Market

Morning: Ride the Maokong Gondola from Taipei Zoo Station (about 20-30 minutes; closed most Mondays).
Afternoon: Spend time at the Maokong teahouses before riding the gondola back down.
Evening: Take the MRT to Songshan station for Raohe Street Night Market (from 17:00).
Getting around: Avoid scheduling this day on a Monday because of gondola maintenance.

Day 4: Day trip to Jiufen

Morning: Take a Taiwan Railways train to Ruifang, then a local bus up to Jiufen.
Afternoon: Walk Jiufen Old Street and the teahouses; add Jinguashi and the Gold Museum if you have time.
Evening: Take the bus back to Ruifang and the train to Taipei.
Getting around: Ruifang Station is about 3.8 km from Jiufen; use the local bus between them.
