Know before you go

Flying from Canada to Vietnam

  • Entry: Canadians need a Vietnam e-visa, applied for online before travel.
  • North or south? Hanoi (HAN) for the north, Ha Long Bay and Sapa; Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) for the south and the Mekong Delta. Domestic flights between them are cheap.
  • Fly into one, out of the other. An open-jaw ticket often costs about the same as a round trip and saves backtracking.
  • Tết is the peak. Lunar New Year is the busiest and most expensive time to fly.

Entry rules change, so confirm on the Government of Canada travel advice page before you book.

Peak season
