1. Gardens by the Bay (Cloud Forest and Flower Dome)

A large waterfront garden with two climate-controlled glasshouses. Cloud Forest has a 35-metre indoor waterfall and a misty mountain of plants, and the outdoor Supertree Grove is free to walk through.

Tip
Plan about an hour inside Cloud Forest. Stay for the free Garden Rhapsody light show on the Supertree lawn (7:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. daily, per a visitor guide). Check the Gardens' site before you go, since the exhibit changes and the conservatory closes for maintenance.

2. Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

A viewing deck at the top of the three-tower hotel, looking over the harbour, the Gardens and the city skyline.

Entry is by time slot and the venue strongly encourages buying online first. Children under 13 must be with an adult. Skip the S$118 "Sunset in the Sky" package, which includes champagne.

3. Singapore Botanic Gardens and National Orchid Garden

A big, shady park with lawns, lakes and walking paths. The National Orchid Garden inside it has thousands of orchids.

4. Jewel Changi Airport (Rain Vortex and Canopy Park)

A glass-and-steel complex next to the airport with a 40-metre indoor waterfall, a forest walk, and a play park. A good way to spend a long layover or the hours before a late flight.

5. Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan)

Singapore's best-known mosque, with a golden dome and two minarets, at the centre of the old Malay and Arab quarter.

Tip
Men need sleeved tops and long pants; women need long sleeves, nothing low-cut, and bottoms to the ankle. Robes are lent at the counter on a first-come basis. Remove your shoes. The main prayer hall and second floor are off limits unless you are with mosque staff. Group tours (Monday–Thursday mornings) must be booked two or more months ahead.
Muslim-friendly
A working mosque. Visitor hours are separate from prayer times, and the mosque is closed to walk-in visitors on Fridays. Contact the mosque to ask about praying there.

6. Kampong Glam, Bussorah Street and Haji Lane

The old Malay and Arab quarter, set aside for Malay, Bugis and Arab settlers in 1822. Arab Street has textile and batik shops, Bussorah Street leads to the mosque, and Haji Lane has small boutiques and murals.

Tip
Visit on a weekday before 10:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. for fewer people. Avoid the area on Friday from noon to 2:00 p.m. Bussorah Street also has shisha cafés, which you may want to skip with kids.
Muslim-friendly
Halal restaurants are easy to find here. Look for the MUIS certificate on the door.

7. Little India and Chinatown

Two historic districts you can do on foot. Little India has Serangoon Road, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and the Temple of 1,000 Lights. Chinatown has restored shophouses, temples such as Thian Hock Keng and Sri Mariamman, and Maxwell Market.

Do one district per half day. Dress modestly for temple visits and expect to take your shoes off.
Muslim-friendly
Tekka Centre in Little India has Indian-Muslim stalls. Masjid Abdul Gafoor is a short walk from Little India MRT. Check halal status stall by stall at Maxwell and other hawker centres.

8. Sentosa Island

A resort island with beaches, Universal Studios and family attractions. It is an easy half or full day out from the city.

9. Singapore Zoo

An open-style zoo in the rainforest, popular with families.

Do Canadians need a visa for Singapore?

What is the SG Arrival Card?

It is a free online arrival declaration (not a visa). Submit it within 3 days before you arrive, on the official ICA e-Service or the MyICA app.

Can non-Muslims go inside the Sultan Mosque?

Yes, for free. Walk-in visits are Saturday–Thursday 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., and the mosque is closed to walk-in visitors on Fridays. Cover arms and legs; robes are lent at the counter.
