Before you book in Singapore

  • Singapore has no separate tourist tax, but hotel bills add 9% GST and usually a 10% service charge (set by the hotel). Check whether the advertised rate includes both. Hotel stays are not eligible for the GST tourist refund.
  • A hotel example: YOTEL Singapore adds a 10% mandatory service charge plus GST (9% since January 1, 2024), and both are included in the total when you book direct.
  • Complete the free SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before you land. It is not a visa.

Questions

Common questions

Where should Muslim families stay in Singapore?

Kampong Glam and Bugis is the easiest base: the Sultan Mosque is a short walk, halal restaurants are close, and Bugis MRT connects to the rest of the city. Little India is a cheaper option with Indian-Muslim food.

Are hotel prices in Singapore shown with tax?

Not always. GST is 9% and many hotels add a 10% service charge, so the final bill can be about 19% higher than a base rate. Check the booking page for "includes taxes and fees".

Do Canadians need a visa for Singapore?

No, for tourism or business visits of up to 30 days. Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.
