HALAL TRAVEL

Halal travel in Seoul: where to eat, pray and stay

Where to eat halal, where to pray and which areas to stay in, with Muslim-friendly notes on the main sights. Every fact links to its source.

Seoul has a small but easy-to-find halal scene, centred on Itaewon around Seoul Central Mosque on Usadan-ro. Outside Itaewon, halal food and prayer spaces are scarcer, so plan meals ahead and check certification. Most Muslim travellers base themselves in Itaewon, or near Myeongdong or Jongno and travel to Itaewon for meals.

Halal status can change when a restaurant changes owner or supplier, so check the certificate at the door. We say where a place is certified and where it is only Muslim-owned or self-declared.

Good to know

  • The Korea Tourism Organization sorts restaurants into four groups: Halal Certified (by an accredited body such as the Korea Muslim Federation), Self-Certified (all food halal, certified by the Muslim owners), Muslim Friendly (some halal dishes, alcohol may be sold) and Pork Free (no halal menu, no pork, alcohol may be sold).
  • For a quick check, look for the KMF "Halal Certified" pictogram. One 2026 guide also suggests the MUFKO app, which scans product barcodes, and the Korea Tourism Organization's halal database.
  • Incheon Airport has prayer rooms. Terminal 1 has one near Gate 24 and an upgraded one on the 4th floor, west side, near Gate 29. Terminal 2's is on the 4th floor in the centre, between the Korean Air lounge and the restaurants. The airport rooms are not separated by gender. This comes from a blog guide, so confirm with airport signs.
  • Other prayer spaces in Seoul listed by the same guide: COEX (3rd floor, Conference Room 300, separate sections, 3:00–22:00), Lotte World Adventure (3rd floor, 9:30–22:00), and Lotte Department Store Songpa (6th floor). Hours may change, so call or ask at the information desk.
  • The Korea Tourism Organization lists a "Pork Free" or "Muslim Friendly" restaurant as not fully halal (alcohol may be sold), so choose Halal Certified or Self-Certified places if you want a fully halal menu.

Muslim-friendly notes on the main sights

  • Myeongdong: The source does not cover halal options in Myeongdong, so check each stall or restaurant for halal certification before eating.
  • Lotte World Adventure: A guide lists a prayer room on the 3rd floor of Lotte World Adventure (9:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m.). Confirm at the information desk when you arrive.
  • Seoul Central Mosque: Muslim visitors can pray here. The mosque also welcomes people who want to learn about Islam, and lectures are held at weekends.
