Halal travel in Honolulu: where to eat, pray and stay

Where to eat halal, where to pray and which areas to stay in, with Muslim-friendly notes on the main sights. Every fact links to its source.

Halal food is limited in Honolulu, but you can manage. A handful of restaurants are on Zabihah's halal list, mostly along South King Street near the University of Hawaii, plus one pizzeria at the Waikiki end of Kalakaua Avenue. Hawaii has no halal certifier, so ask about the meat supplier, and fresh fish and poke are easy fallbacks. The island's main mosque is in Manoa, a short drive from Waikiki.

Halal status can change when a restaurant changes owner or supplier, so check the certificate at the door. We say where a place is certified and where it is only Muslim-owned or self-declared.
